  • Description
  • PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) Spiral Nozzles are specialized atomizing components that combine the ultimate corrosion resistance of PTFE with the anti-clogging and high atomization performance of spiral nozzles. Their core value lies in providing a reliable, uniform, and maintenance-free atomization and spraying solution for highly corrosive, viscous, or crystallizing media.

    Physical and Chemical Properties

    · Chemical Properties

      · Ultimate Chemical Inertia: Inert to virtually all strong acids, strong alkalis, and organic solvents. Can be safely used for handling highly corrosive media like hydrofluoric acid (HF), sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and aqua regia.

      · High Purity, No Contamination: The material is pure with no leachables, preventing contamination of the treated media and meeting high cleanliness requirements in industries like food and pharmaceuticals.

    · Physical and Thermal Properties

      · Broad Temperature Resistance Range: Long-term operating temperature from -180°C to +250°C, capable of stable performance in extreme high and low-temperature environments.

      · Exceptional Surface Properties: Possesses one of the lowest known surface tensions and coefficients of friction among solid materials, offering superior non-stick and self-lubricating properties, effectively preventing material buildup and clogging.

      · Mechanical and Electrical Properties: The base material is relatively soft, but the product design is robust. It also has excellent electrical insulation properties.

    Application Areas

Their application core is spray scenarios requiring handling of corrosive, viscous, or high-purity liquids. Typical scenarios include:

    1. Environmental Air Pollution Control: Spraying of corrosive slurries or chemical solutions in flue gas desulfurization (FGD), dust removal, and exhaust gas scrubbers.

    2. Chemical and Process Industries: Spraying of corrosive chemicals, cooling of reaction gases, equipment cleaning/rinse.

    3. Firefighting and Safety: Fire protection and suppression systems in special locations (e.g., chemical plants).

    4. High Cleanliness Industries: Equipment cleaning or humidification in food, pharmaceutical, and semiconductor industries, ensuring no contamination.

    Advantages Compared to Other Nozzles

Their core advantage lies in combining top-tier corrosion resistance, anti-clogging properties, and long service life in one component.

    1. Compared to Metal (Stainless Steel/Brass) Spiral Nozzles

       · Metal Nozzle Disadvantage: Not resistant to strong corrosive media like hydrofluoric acid, prone to pitting and rust; prone to scaling, inferior non-stick properties.

       · PTFE Nozzle Advantage: Near-perfect chemical inertia, suitable for all corrosive media; excellent non-stick properties, better anti-clogging; lighter weight.

    2. Compared to Other Plastic (e.g., PP, PVC) Nozzles

       · Ordinary Plastic Nozzle Disadvantage: Very poor temperature and chemical resistance, unsuitable for high-temperature or strong acid/base environments; prone to aging and deformation.

       · PTFE Nozzle Advantage: Excellent combined performance in temperature and corrosion resistance; several times longer service life.

    3. Compared to Ordinary Straight-Through or Fan Nozzles

       · Ordinary Nozzle Disadvantage: Straight flow path, highly prone to clogging, especially unsuitable for liquids containing particles or high viscosity; generally average atomization uniformity.

       · PTFE Spiral Nozzle Advantage: Unique coreless spiral flow path design utilizes centrifugal force to break up the liquid, offering excellent anti-clogging performance while producing an extremely uniform hollow cone or full cone spray pattern.

    Usage Precautions

    1. Strictly Avoid Over-Pressure and Mechanical Damage: PTFE has limited mechanical strength. Always operate within the nominal working pressure (commonly 0.2-3 MPa). Avoid over-tightening with tools or impact during installation to prevent thread damage.

    2. Control Operating Temperature: Long-term use is recommended not to exceed 250°C. Avoid contact with open flames or heat sources to prevent material thermal decomposition.

    3. Compatible Installation and Sealing: Select the correct thread standard (e.g., NPT, BSP) based on the piping interface during installation. Use PTFE thread seal tape or fluoroelastomer gaskets for sealing. Do not use sealing materials that may corrode.

    4. Regular Inspection: Although clog-resistant, periodically inspect the orifice for foreign objects or wear to ensure proper spray pattern.

    Selection Guide

Selection can follow the logic of "determining material by medium, parameters by conditions, and interface by system."

Step 1: Confirm Necessity and Material Based on Medium Characteristics

This is the decisive step. Choose PTFE material if your process medium meets any of the following conditions:

    · Is strongly corrosive (e.g., acids, alkalis, oxidizers).

    · Is highly viscous or prone to crystallization/scaling.

    · Has extremely high purity requirements,不允许不允许 metal ion leaching (e.g., food, pharmaceutical, electronics industries).

Step 2: Determine Key Performance Parameters Based on Process Objective

Based on your spray purpose (e.g., cooling, washing, desulfurization), define these core parameters:

    · Flow Rate and Pressure: Select based on the system's required liquid handling capacity, referring to flow rate-pressure curves (see common specifications in the reference table below). Flow rate is typically proportional to the square root of pressure.

    · Spray Angle and Pattern:

      · Hollow Cone: Relatively gentle impact, large coverage area, suitable for gas scrubbing, coating coverage.

      · Full Cone: Strong impact in the central area, suitable for scenarios requiring forceful mixing or cleaning.

      · Spray Angle: Common angles include 60°, 90°, 120°, 150°, etc. Larger angles provide wider coverage but reduced penetration.

    · Droplet Size: Spiral nozzles typically produce relatively coarse droplets, suitable for washing and cooling. For extremely fine atomization (e.g., humidification), this must be specified.

Step 3: Match System Interface and Installation Conditions

    · Connection Method: Confirm if it's male or female thread, and the specific thread standard and size (e.g., 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch).

    · Installation Space: Measure the allowable total nozzle length to ensure it fits in the intended location.

    · Certification Requirements: For specific industries (e.g., food, pharmaceuticals), confirm if the product has relevant certifications like FDA, SGS.

    Summary and Core Recommendation

PTFE spiral nozzles are the "ultimate weapon" for solving spray challenges in strongly corrosive, clog-prone conditions. The core of their selection is "first look at the medium, then look at the operating conditions."

    Simple Decision Process:

    1. Is the medium strongly corrosive, viscous, or scaling? Yes → Must choose PTFE material.

    2. Does the process require high flow coverage or strong impact? → Determine spray angle and pattern.

    3. What are the system piping size and pressure? → Determine interface size and specific model.

For the vast majority of strongly corrosive industrial spray applications (e.g., desulfurization towers), PTFE spiral nozzles offer the best cost-performance choice. If corrosion is low but abrasion is severe (e.g., mineral slurry), consider silicon carbide nozzles. For ordinary water spray, stainless steel nozzles are more economical.
