What are the applications of PTFE gaskets?

PTFE gaskets are wear-resistant materials; however, pure PTFE is relatively soft. To enhance their wear resistance, different manufacturers have developed various formulations incorporating additives for modification. The so-called filled PTFE gaskets are typically made from such modified materials. In fluid machinery—such as pumps, compressors, agitators, and centrifuges—the PTFE gasket is often the component subjected to the most severe operating conditions.
PTFE gaskets are primarily manufactured by cutting PTFE rods, tubes, and other PTFE stock into various shapes. Common configurations include flat gaskets and V-shaped thermal pads; some are also cut into flexible rings. All these types exhibit excellent corrosion resistance and non-conductive properties. PTFE gaskets have a wide range of applications. In industrial settings, when leaks occur at joints or seams in equipment, PTFE heat-seal gaskets can be used for leak-stopping and repair; they are also suitable for the installation and splicing of brittle materials. In certain machining operations, if workpiece deformation or misalignment during installation leads to defects, repairs using PTFE gaskets can restore the components to acceptable quality.
PTFE gaskets are not only widely used in industrial facilities but also in various food and pharmaceutical applications, owing to their unique property of causing no contamination of the materials being processed. They are a sealing product that ensures both tightness and cleanliness.
