How can a fluororubber seal be restored to its original shape after deformation?

2026-02-11

Deformation of fluororubber sealing rings can be classified as either recoverable bending or irreversible bending. Recoverable deformation, in turn, includes minor deformations such as small strains, torsion, and deviations from coaxiality; irreversible deformation encompasses severe distortions like wrinkling and gaps. After minor deformations are restored, the rubber gasket can resume normal operation, and its sealing performance is unlikely to be compromised.

However, once a bent rubber gasket is repaired, its sealing performance will be compromised, rendering it unusable. Let’s learn how to restore the bend in a deformed rubber gasket.

Prolonged storage can cause slight deformation of fluororubber seals. How can this be corrected?

Remove the deformed rubber gasket, quickly boil water, and pour it into the container.

Place boiling water in a container and immerse the rubber pad in the boiling water.

After ten minutes of foaming, remove the rubber pad and proceed with careful advancement.

Post-traction repair with enhanced ductility: a prototype repaired using a slightly bent rubber pad.

The aforementioned methods can only be used to repair bending in rubber pads, such as minor deformation, provided that the structure and shape remain intact and are not damaged by external forces.
